Sad part is-he’s not joking

Posted by gnn1 on Friday, 31 August 2007

Happy Monday’s star Bez is apparently a fucking moron.  He is quoted as saying:

Pete Doherty is talked about all the time but he’s a fucking lightweight. He spends more time in rehab than he does taking drugs for fuck’s sake. Winehouse is the same, she’s got a lot to prove. There are too many part-time rock n’ rollers these days. They should get out and have a good time. I’ve not spent a minute in rehab in 25 years and I’m alright.”

Uh, yeah…that last part is debateable.  Fuckin jackass.

I’m starting to think Dick’s a news whore

Posted by gnn1 on Friday, 31 August 2007

Interesting week when a Z-list comedian makes blogs more than Britney…

Andy Dick got into a bit of a tussle with a paparazzo Wednesday, 29 Aug, when he tried grabbing the man’s video camera.

He insisted he was after the tape, not the camera, and lunged for the camera. The pap dodged him and Dick chased him (still-shooting!!) down the Walk of Fame.

I’ll keep an eye on TMZ and X-17 and see if they get the footage from that camera, cos that is sure to be entertaining!

UPDATE: better late than never, I found the video at TMZ.

Sebastian said Knock You Out!!!

Posted by gnn1 on Friday, 31 August 2007

Awww dayum! If you didn’t catch Celebrity Rap Superstar you missed a kickass rockin performance by Sebastian Bach! Rock and roll became rock and rap tonight baby! Each celebrity is paired up with a pro rapper, and given a song to perform, NOT of their choice. They work with their mentor and prepare for a live performance in front of 3 judges (DMC of Run DMC, da Brat, and someone from hip hop radio whose name escapes me right now-I’ll update later when I catch a repeat Big Boy, from Power 106 in LA) and a studio audience.

Now, it’s clear when they selected the celebs that talent was not a factor. Because some of these people really fuckin sucked. Colin Farrell look-alike Jason Wahler and Efren Ramirez (Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite) were absolute worst, and I expect one of them will be singin Hit the Road Jack next week. (Or, no votes for Pedro this time, and Jason is headed for the Hills…).

My man Perez kicked ass and owned it baby! Shar Jackson proved that at least SHE can rap (she’s Kevin Federline’s other baby momma), so there is some hope for those kids. Countess Vaughan performed what has got to be the gayest song I have EVER heard in my life (Lipgloss by L’il Momma), but kicked ass! There was a Playboy bunny, whose name once again escapes me Kendra Wilkinson. Totally gorgeous, got kickass moves, but can NOT rap. Jamal Anderson from the Atlanta Falcons did so-so. Forgot lyrics so he freestyled, not too badly, but he really wasn’t impressive. The absolute best was Sebastian Bach though! If he keeps on the way he did tonight, he will come out the winner. (Total off-topic side note, his brother, Zack, played goal-keeper for my local pro hockey team, so Bach-not his real last name-was here a couple times-pretty cool!).

There are plenty of reruns on MTV, you should totally check it out. Even if you don’t care for rap or hip hop (I don’t), it’s worth it.

PS: How many times you think Kevin will say I heard that next week?

It IS possible to be too confident, moron…

Posted by gnn1 on Friday, 31 August 2007

Gods, he won’t shut up!  I’m talking about Fiddy-iot.  He had this to say during an interview:

“Its not possible for Kanye to beat me, I don’t know why I said that. Its like the teddy bear vs. the gorilla. Def Jam [West's label] is going to buy about 200,000 of Kanye’s records. Kanye sucks, I’m going to be honest, he sounds like a robot, he has a robot record.”

Please, let the 11th get here, and fast!  Please people, buy Kanye’s album.

The Art of Cramming (Learning v. Over Learning)

Posted by gnn1 on Thursday, 30 August 2007

Here is an article fromPsychological Science (‘We’re Only Human”).  It’s on the debate whether ‘over learning’ something (see bold faced section, 5th paragraph for definition/example) is more beneficial than simply stopping studying once you’ve immediately mastered something or whether the excessive studying is a waste of time.

The Science of Cramming

By Wray Herbert

I went to a very nerdy college. This school was so nerdy that the “mascot” was an engineer, and at football games students would chant: “Tangent, secant, cosine, sine. Three point one four one five nine. Go Engineers!”

I’m not kidding.

So how is it possible that today I do not even know what a secant is? Or a sine. To be truthful, I don’t think I really know what trigonometry is, though I’m pretty sure I did back then. My recollection is that I studied all the time, but I seem to have retained almost nothing from my early immersion in math and science.

Was I studying the wrong way during all those wee hours? Well, as it turns out I may have been. The fact is nobody talked much about how to study back then. You just went to class and did homework and took quizzes and complained about it. But you never thought about how long to study or when take a break or call it quits. But psychologists have been thinking about studying and memory and long-term learning, and it appears that some strategies really do work much better than others.

Consider “overlearning.” That’s the term learning specialists use for drilling even after you’ve mastered something. Say you’re studying new vocabulary words, flash-card style, and you finally run through the whole list error-free; any study beyond that point is overlearning. Is this just a waste of valuable time, or does this extra effort embed the new memory even deeper for the long haul?

University of South Florida psychologist Doug Rohrer decided to explore this question scientifically. Working with Harold Pashler of the University of California, San Diego, he had two groups of students study new vocabulary in different ways. One group drilled themselves five times; these students got a perfect score no more than once. The others kept drilling, for a total of ten trials; with this extra effort, the students had at least three perfect run-throughs. Then the psychologists quizzed all the students, once one week later and again three weeks after that.

The results were interesting. When the students took the test a week later, those who had done the extra drilling performed better. So it would work for something like cramming for the SATs, because you really don’t care if you forget those obscure words once you’re in college. But whatever edge the more effortful students had at one week had completely disappeared by four weeks. In other words, if students are interested in learning that lasts, that extra effort is really a waste. Go watch some TV or get some sleep.

Rohrer and Pashler also wanted to see if the scheduling of study breaks might make a difference in learning. It did. When the students took breaks ranging from five minutes to two weeks, those who had taken a one-day break performed best when they were tested ten days later. But if they were tested six months later (the laboratory equivalent of long-term learning), the optimal break time was a full month. In other words, as reported in the August issue of Current Directions in Psychological Science, “massing” all the study on a single topic together diminishes learning. It’s better to leave it alone for a while and then return to it, and indeed the longer you want new learning to endure, the longer the optimal break between study sessions.

All these experiments involved rote learning, but Rohrer and Pashler have also found similar effects with more abstract learning, like math. This is particularly troubling, the psychologists say, because most mathematics textbooks today are organized to encourage both overlearning and massing of study time, which means students are wasting a lot of precious learning time.

All we were taught about study skills at my nerdy school was to keep a clean, well-lit work space and eat a good breakfast, and most of us ignored that advice. I suspect there are a lot of reasons why I have forgotten everything about sines and secants over the years. But some scientifically-grounded learning skills couldn’t have hurt.

For more insights into the quirks of human behavior, visit “We’re Only Human . . .” at www.psychologicalscience.org/onlyhuman.

I’m of the mindset that extra drilling is beneficial, but only after a break be it 24 hours or several weeks/months.  As a college student of psychology, where the same theories and terms surface semester after semester, the ones I ‘over learnt’ I remember, and only need a refresher on, whilst the terms I only just learnt, I need to completely re-master.

I noticed that last term when I took medical terminology as a science elective.  Often, the same terms showed up chapter after chapter (usually suffices and prefices [suffixes and prefixes for the Latin-impaired]).  The ones I drilled on repeatedly, even after learning them well, I remember now, 4 months later, whilst the ones I stopped on, I have to look up (thank gods for medical dictionaries).

What are your thoughts?

Ugh. More of the Dick

Posted by gnn1 on Wednesday, 29 August 2007

Andy Dick wasn’t happy polluting Columbus OH with his presence (and piss).  Now he’s polluting his neighbour’s backyard.

Apparently he thinks he lives next door to a redemption center or a landfill.  He was pitching beer bottles over his fence into the neighbour’s yard.

Then, apparently he didn’t think he’d pissed them off enough.  He cranked up the volume after midnight resulting in a noise complaint.

One night, two cop visits, two warnings.  Three strikes he’s out: Police have indicated if he violates city codes covering parties (noise ordinances most likely), he will receive an actual misdemeanor charge.

He’s apparently also pissed off the principal of a local elementary school, but there was no elaboration on that.

He and Britney should hook up; they’d get along great!

More custody drama

Posted by gnn1 on Wednesday, 29 August 2007

and it’s NOT Britney and KFed.

Nope it’s Charlie and Denise.  They are facing off in the media now.

Seems Denise didn’t take too kindly to Charlie talking to media about his dissatisfaction with their current arrangement.  She thinks the whole thing should be handled privately (something, I’m normally inclined to agree with).

”I was disappointed to learn of my ex-husband Charlie Sheen’s current statement regarding our personal affairs. This was and should still be a private matter that we as responsible parents settled privately. I stand by that agreement and I will continue to do what is best for our children while attempting to keep this family situation a private matter.” — Denise

Charlie has rebutted.

“Until I’m granted the ability to hire my own nanny, she is required to provide one and I was terribly insulted that she felt her ‘assistant’ was a suitable replacement. If it’s unfortunate that I’m speaking, it’s ‘unfortunate’ that an incredibly loving and responsible father and his terrifically capable fiancée are being subjected to these transparent and unnecessary sanctions, that have nothing to do with responsible co-parenting and everything to do with punishment and control. As long as I am forced to live under these conditions with my children, people are going to hear about it.”

Now, I’m thinking that Charlie is going to the media as a ‘court of last resort’ so to speak, speaking out of frustration not malice.

Now, I know he’s abused drugs before, and cheated on Denise, but from all appearances that seems to have ended.

Besides, didn’t St Denise wind up stealing her best friend’s hubby?

For gods’ sakes, let the man hire his own damned nanny, one who really IS a nanny not a celeb assistant.

Soap Opera writers really ought to be following this case

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 28 August 2007

Of course I mean Britney and Kevin. Where to start? Oh my it was an interesting (unplanned) day off I had… My, my, my, my, my, my, my… Mmm-mmm

Well, I suppose I’ll start with someone Kfed’s lawyer attempted to have served assaulting Aaron Cohen—the man responsible for sending Larry Rudolph into hiding, and making Alli Sims cry (whine ass)—with a deadly weapon. At least, that’s what police have said the charge could be. There’s also a hit and run on the table.

Sam Osama Lufti was arriving home when he apparently recognised Cohen. He then gunned his Mercedes, rammed Cohen’s Buick, smashed into a Range Rover, and sped off, ignoring a stop sign!

Perez sez things smell fishy. I want to say I think it smells like a damned tuna-canning factory! If Brit Brit is such a wonderful mother, why don’t her friends, associates, etc, take the subpoenas, go to court, and stick up for her!

Now–the DCFS report.

We don’t know yet who called DCFS, but there is apparently an interesting little clue…

See, DCFS keeps its allegations hush-hush. But in court papers, KFed’s team filed today, the complaints are listed as poor dental hygiene, poor eating habits, and poor sleeping habits. Physical abuse is not alleged.

More of Andy Dick than I wanted to see…

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 28 August 2007

So, apparently boozing and drugging it up and slutting around quite enough to top off Andy Dick’s weekend in Columbus. Nope. We could never be so lucky.

He had to do the ‘drunken parking lot piss’ whilst calling or texting someone!

And because I know some readers will want to see the pics (I don’t know why–I did and proceeded to struggle with my stomach so as not to puke), they are at PerezHilton.com (so totally NOT befouling my blog with these ones, plus, I warn you now they are NSFW-UNCENSORED, you can see Dick’s dick). If you are insane enough to want them, enjoy. [That's also my source link]

Why is he famous? Seriously. I don’t know anything he’s done other than drugs and pissing off John Lovitz.

Watch Perez Hilton on tv!

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 28 August 2007

I’m am totally doing this of my own free will, and am actually NOT in any way affiliated with Perez.

But I simply love them man.  He is entertaining, intelligent, and appears to be a genuinely decent person (not to mention simply genuine).  He is my frequent source (and generally a good one).

Anyways, he’s got his own show on VH1 called ‘What Perez Sez,’ which will debut at 9 pm on 11 Sept.

He’s ALSO doing an MTV show, Celebrity Rap Superstar (also referred to as Rappin With the Stars), which debuts Thursday (30 Aug) at 10 pm!

He’ll be getting some of my Perezious tv time, though now I get to play Juggle-the-DVR schedule *sighs*

I wonder how crow tastes…

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 28 August 2007

So this whole damned 50 Cent/Kanye West thing is back on the front burner.  Fiddy-iot was told (mistakenly) by radio host Booker that West’s album was pushed back a week.  So the loser-to be gloated:

‘That just makes sense. He’s scared of me! I told him, “You gotta expect to lose by a landslide. I just looked at him really serious and said – Kanye you’re gonna lose, man. You’re gonna lose bad.’ I said ‘Just check it out, if you come out the same day I come out, then everybody’s gonna know that you’re coming out because of me, cuz they’re going to the stores to buy mine and they’ll see yours on the side”‘.

I’m thinking it’s more, at this point, if he’s lucky, people will buy a copy of his album when they go in to pick up Kanye’s.  I haven’t looked forward to Sept 11 in 6 years, but I’m waiting for this one!

Btw, on the iTunes chart, based on pre-orders, Kanye is sitting at #17 and 50 Cent is at a miserable #64.

Someone may wanna get the loudmouth soon-to-be-ex rapper (remember he swore to quit if Kanye outsells him) some hot sauce, cos I’ve heard it’s tough to choke down that much crow.

Hulk Hogan’s son injured in crash

Posted by gnn1 on Sunday, 26 August 2007

Bad night to be famous I guess.  Earlier tonight, Hulk Hogan’s son and another (as yet unidentified) male were seriously injured when the car they were driving slammed into a palm tree in Clearwater Fla.

Early investigations indicate the car was speeding.  The car was completely destroyed and both men had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life.   They were then med-evaced to Bayfront Medical Centre in St Petersburg Fla.

Andy Dick likes the young guys…and water sports

Posted by gnn1 on Sunday, 26 August 2007

Perez Hilton’s readers are quick on the draw-with camera phones!  Thanks to them there are a ton of pics of Andy Dick making out with college aged guys at a club in Columbus Ohio called Axis.

He also seems to like water sports (and no, I’m not talking about water skiing).  A reader claims to have been solicited by the Dick-man whilst in the bathroom and Andy tried to pee on him (ewww-ness!).  The guy says Andy was beyond wasted.

He was beyond drunk. He seemed cracked out as fuck. And for the record, AndyDick’s ‘dick’ is not that impressive.” [I don't know if Perez or the reader bolded that line, but it was already bolded when I got it].

Another reader informed Perez that Andy did manage to get lucky that night, in the club’s bathroom (ewww-ness again).

Several readers claim that Andy tried to cop some cocaine from them.

By the end of the night he was beyond gone and had to be carried out of the club.

Talk about (almost) walking trainwrecks!

Tons of pics over at Perez’s page if you wanna check them out.  Totally worth it, but skip them if you’ve recently eaten.
