Rescue still more than three days away

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

Six miners are still trapped more than a quarter mile underground, and more than 3.5 miles inside the mine. And it’s believed that they will remain there Wednesday and Thursday, possibly even into Friday.

The seismographs indicate that what authorities originally believed was an earthquake is actually the seismic recording of the cave in. The seismic signature of earthquakes resulting from cave-ins is distinct from those of natural quakes.

Robert Murray, chairman of Cleveland’s Murray Energy Corp, the mine’s owner, insists the quake was a natural occurrence, and not the result of the cave-in caused by ‘retreat mining’ as has been suggested.

Amy Louvier, spokewoman for the federal Mine Safety & Health Administration disagrees. She states that this mine had submitted a plan, and received approval, last year.

Retreat mining occurs when miners pull down the last remaining coal pillars, allowing the roof to fall in. It has been responsible for 13 deaths in the last 7 years. Amy Louviere states that if the approved plans are followed explicitly, retreat mining can be safe. Fatalities occur when miners deviate from the plans.

The Crandall Canyon Mine has had more than three hundred safety violations since 2004. Just in this year, they have had 32 violations including 12 serious ones.

Of the six miners, only one, Kerry Allred, has been identified, although the Mexican consulate says three are Mexican citizens.

Pete Wentz has Bi-polar

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

The 28 year old Fall Out Boy bassist has spoken out on his battles with the illness in this month’s Q magazine-a British music mag .  He has been on medication for 10 years.  He further revealed that his parent’s separation on his sixth birthday deeply traumatised him.

He adds, “I turned my emotions off like a faucet.”

I totally relate to that and to a part where he says:

When I am depressed, I can’t get out of bed.

Let me say that that is not an exaggeration.   That truly happens in people with depression and bipolar.

Umm, ew?

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

Cate Blanchett has reportedly stopped washing her hair in efforts to help the environment.  She also installed timers around her home, including her shower head.

Now she’s no longer washing her hair, Blanchett has realized, “I only need to have a two minute shower.”

Apparently she’s stopped shaving too?

He found the ignition how, exactly?

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

A 48 year old guy from Australia was taken first to hospital then to jail 5 August. His blood alcohol content was 0.368.

For those who don’t know exactly what those numbers mean (other than being very drunk and well beyond the legal limit), it means that almost 40% of this guy’s blood was alcohol!

0.35 is comparative to surgical anaesthesia. And at 0.40 most people lose consciousness and experience a decrease in heart rate.

Where’s Lindsay, really?

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

I’m inclined to believe still that she is at her mother’s.  But now CBS’s The Insider is reporting that she has indeed checked into Cirque Lodge in Utah for a minimum 30 day treatment, although she should be able to leave for her arraignment later this month.

This place sounds more like a freakin resort than rehab facility…  Check it out:

The Lodge was named by Town & Country magazine to be one of the country’s top rehabs. For a price tag of $30,000 and up, the rehab offers privacy — with rooms for 16 residents at a time. The Lodge boasts spectacular views of mountain ranges and waterfalls; Jacuzzi tubs and private fireplaces, horseback riding therapy, massage therapy, hydro therapy and even a hair salon with manicures!

But that’s not all. The Lodge even owns a helicopter called “Rainbow” and arranges “heli-hiking” tours, and features gourmet meals prepared by culinary school graduates. There’s also a sound stage that was once the home of the “Donny and Marie” show, which now houses the most effective challenge ropes course in the world.

*shakes head*

Backstreet Boys are back–deal with it

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

Yes, they have a new album.  No, Kevin is NOT on it.

I’ve heard so many rumours that Kevin is back in the group (he’s not) all because of a pair of shoes (empty) in a group photo.

Anyhow…Inconsolable is their first single, and debuted on Z100 last night at 6 pm (according to various websites).

The as yet unnamed album comes out the night before Halloween (30 October).  Happily Never After and Helpless When She Smiles (which may or may not) be on the album were leaked online and are available if you know where to find them.

All I can say now is bout damned time.  I’m tired of living on Backstreet time…

Cool–a new Viggo movie!

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

Contact Music reports that Viggo Mortensen, Renee Zellweger, and Ed Harris are teaming up for Appaloosa.

Ed Harris (who played Viggo’s nasty older brother Richie Fogarty, the gangster with the fucked eye in A History of Violence) is co-writing the screenplay, and directing it as well.

Hit me baby one more time

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

I’m thinking maybe starlets should have to re-road test… another driving mishap and Britney is in the news again (like she ever leaves) after driving into a parked car in H’wood.

She scraped the car, scratching both it and her own convertible. Then, her car troubles not quite over, she opens her car door and hits the silver car yet again.

Pictures show her appearing to swear as she hit the car, then later pouting (yes, honest-to-god pouting) .

Edited to add: apparently it’s even better… She left the scene without reporting it (a felony, I believe). And there only, yunno, a dozen or more witnesses (sometimes I love the paps). Oh, but those poor guy, she apparently was panty-less again, so they got another eyeful…

Some AWESOME pics, and even a video, over at X17, but they are copyright bears, so here are links.  They are worth it!

So, which is it people??

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

Contact Music reports that Britney Spears failed to recognise Posh at the Chateau Marmont last Tuesday. Supposedly Victoria walked up to Britney and said,

‘Hi Britney. I’m Victoria from the Spice Girls’. But Britney had no idea who she was,” the source said.

Britney is said to then just look ‘vacantly’ at her before turning and walking away.

Now this is directly contrary to the reports that Britney refused a table next to Posh, walking out to go to Il Sole instead.

And to make matters even more confusing, some people are saying that Posh snubbed Britney instead!

One diner told Closer magazine: “Britney walked in and sat next to Victoria and David. Victoria was fuming and got up, practically dragging David with her.

“She told staff it was ridiculous to think she’d want to be near ‘that mess’ Britney.

To be honest, I’m not buying this. I don’t think that even someone as stupid, vapid, and self absorbed as ‘Brit-Brit’ could fail to know who Posh is. And we now have three stories for the same restaurant for the same day.

Thoughts, anyone?

OMG-Denise Richards asked Charlie for his sperm???

Posted by gnn1 on Tuesday, 7 August 2007

Oh yeah-totally getting filed under wtf!

Charlie revealed to Entertainment Tonight that ex-wife Denise Richards asked him for a, ahem, donation.  Apparently she wants more kids.

His thoughts?

“…if I’m good enough to, as it were, provide my DNA, I should surely be good enough to hire my own child care provider.”

According to ET online,

Charlie’s current legal situation prevents him and Brooke from hiring their own child care for the girls; Denise’s nanny is there during visits.

Charlie pretty much flat out stated he won’t make such a donation, telling reporters:

”I would sooner walk on the surface of the moon in exactly what I’m wearing.”

He plans to show documentation in court regarding the unusual request–apparently he is seeking to change the custody agreement.

The interview is supposed to air tonight on Entertainment Tonight, and there is also a 2 minute video on the site, which can be accessed via the source link.
