Stevie Wonder announces US tour

BY: Actress Archives | Friday, August 3, 2007

One of the all-time legends of music, Stevie Wonder announced today that he’s going to embark on his first United States tour in over a decade, starting August 23rd in San Diego and ending less than a month later in Boston on September 20th. It may not be a marathon, but a chance to see the legendary Stevie Wonder live is enough to make headlines worldwide. The tour by Stevie Wonder will cover 13 dates and feature stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta.

Stevie Wonder told the press this morning at a news conference in a public park at Century City, Los Angeles, as quoted by The BBC, “I thought what would be really wonderful would be to go out and perform throughout this country as we have a need for healing.”

Stevie Wonder will heal the country with his thirteen shows and likely do some of his more massive hits like “I Just Called To Say I Love You” and “Superstition,” along with countless others that still get constant radio airplay decades after they were first released. Wonder told the crowd that tickets for his tour will go on sale a week from tomorrow, August 13th.

Stevie Wonder didn’t just hold a press conference, he gave hundreds of people a glimpse of what they’ll get if they come to his US tour. He played several of his hits, including “Higher Ground” and “My Cherie Amour.” Stevie Wonder reportedly told the crowd that he had been “blessed with being able to sing and to write, to play – what better way can I think of than to go out and share my love with you through song.”

Stevie Wonder did imply that there may be more dates added to what is being called the Wonder Summer Nights tour. Two years ago, Stevie released his first album in a decade called A Time to Love, but didn’t tour at the time. The CD debuted at number five on the chart and has almost gone Gold in the last couple years. It’s a drop in the bucket for the career sales total of Stevie Wonder, which tops 70 million since he signed with Motown Records when he was only eleven. In the years since then, Stevie Wonder has produced an amazing 34 singles that hit the top ten on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in either the U.S. or the U.K. or both including “Fingertips,” “Superstition,” “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” “You Haven’t Done Nothin'”, “I Wish,” “Sir Duke,” “Ebony and Ivory,” “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” and “Part-Time Lover,” all of which hit number ONE in the States.

I feel bad for saying this, but I didn’t know he was still alive… :-/
