A bridge in China that spanned the Tuo River (Fenghuang County in Hunan Province) has collapsed. The initial death doll is 22, but is expected to climb much higher. So far at least 39 have been determined to be missing.

The bridge was under construction, and was due to be completed this month. This is the second bridge collapse in China this summer–9 people were killed in June in a collapse.

China has undertaken a project to repair more than 6000 bridges deemed dangerous or damaged.
